Ace Ventura is a 1994 comedy movie starring comedian and actor Jim Carrey as the protagonist Ace Ventura. The movie was directed by Tom Shadyac from a screenplay written by Jack Bernstein, Brian Burns, and Mike McConaughey. In this film, Jim Carrey plays the title character Ace Ventura: pet detective. In this role he follows clues from missing pets to solve crimes related to them, including kidnapping plots and murder cases. The supporting cast features Courtney Cox as Dr. Jillian "Jill" Morgan; Sean Young as Carol Edison; Courteney Cox's father Johnny Cooksey as Lt. Lois Einhorn; Janine Turner as the dolphin mascot of the Miami Dolphins; and Sean Young as Carol Edison. The scene where Ace enters the Dolphins Stadium of Miami is shot at Joe Robbie Stadium of Miami. The scene where Dick Stensland's yacht is seen was filmed at the Wet 'n Wild water park of Orlando. The soundtrack was released on March 6, 1994 by MCA Records. It peaked at 53 on the US "Billboard" 200 and reached positions on various charts all over the world. A main single from the album "I Hate You" reached 53 on the US "Billboard" Hot 100, while two other singles ("Ace's Theme" and "Find Her Finer") reached 41 and 42 respectively on that chart. The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The platinum-certified soundtrack was certified as a quadruple million-selling album by the RIAA on September 11, 2014. In his review for the "Ouija board" segment, Roger Ebert wrote: "I haven't seen this kind of comic improvisation since Richard Pryor played a nightclub owner in "Harlem Nights" (also directed by Tom Shadyac). This is not really acting; it's performance art. It's 'going for it,' the way Jim Carey went for his Oscar nomination in "Awakenings", and it could be great." On its opening weekend, Ace Ventura made $8. 3 million in box office revenue, placing No. 3 at the box office behind "The Lion King" and "Hook." It made $21,893,520 in the U.S. and $5,562,683 abroad for a total gross of $26,015,827 worldwide. The film received highly positive reviews from critics.
